Fun -Creative-Challenge at Joan's Gardens

Happy Sunday to you all!

I have FINALLY put forth the effort to do the project inspired by the Guest Designer, Glenda Brooks over at Joan's GardensJoan is doing things a little differently for the summer months and has a different Guest Designer set up for each week who will challenge us to a new technique/project.  Please be sure to check out Glenda's project and then give it a try ... I'm sure glad I did!!

Here's my covered box project and I'll try to walk you through some of the steps to this finished project.  (I must say I'm really proud of the end result ... I'm NOT very good at 3D projects so this challenge did exactly that ... challenged me!)

The box is your typical unfinished box from Michael's $1 bin.  And the first thing was to make my own 'designer paper' which I decided to use on the lid ONLY (using Mod Podge).  The box bottom was decorated with Purple Markers.

I tried using Tim Holtz distress ink (like Glenda did) but I think she must have used the reinkers ... I used the pads themselves.  Then sprayed with water (didn't run as much as I'd hoped) then put a coat of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (Pearl) over top.

Next came the flowers.  Again, I made my own dp ... this time using SU reinkers and the 'Ink, Spray & Smash' technique (found over at Splitcoast Stampers). I chose to use the Tim Holtz Flowers die and am thrilled with the outcome.  I've never 'put them together' ... I've always just used 1 or 2 of the flowers.  But this size was PERFECT for my altered box.

After cutting out the flower with the die, I decided to give them a little dimension by curling some of the edges and spraying with the same Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (pearls) spray.  I just love the variegated colors when you're layering like this ...

Here's how it looks when it's layered.  What do you think?  Cool huh?  (I'm so proud of myself ... [patting myself on the back] LOL)

All that was needed next were some leaves, pearl center,  a little lace and project complete!!  I've left the bottom corner empty so I can personalize it when I choose to use it for a special gift giving.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and my covered box project!  Please pop over to Joan's Gardens and see what other WONDERFUL projects & products she has to share with you.

[Ssssshhhh ... can you keep a secret???   I'm thrilled to be one of Joan's Guest Designers during the summer ... so keep checking back to see what I am able to come up with.  Yikes ... did I tell you I'm HORRIBLE at 3D projects .... Hmmmm guess I'd better get my thinking cap on!]

Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge - Something new (technique & flower die)

  3. Darlene, I love your finished project! You took my techniques and made them your own and quite beautifully, I might add. Everything just goes together so well and your paper turned out so well. I used the same spray you used, but I couldn't say the name because Joan didn't sell it. So I just said shimmer spray! I love the colors and again that flower just blows me away! Go girl!

  9. Stunning project Charlene!! Your colors and technique really shows how well you can put all those different ones together. The flowers are just fabulous...a passion of mine is making different kinds of flowers, so this part was my favorite. A really well done project and I can say I would sure love to receive it. Hugs. How is the carpet installation going? Take it easy and both of you do NOT over do.
