Trying to stay busy ...

I knew I'd have a long day of sitting at Cleveland Clinic yesterday while DH had his first of many HIGH DOSE chemo treatments ... but neither of us realized the treatment would take SIX HOURS!!! Even though these cards look very much like the cards I've been making sets of lately, it was the other thing I could quickly pull together to take with me. I need to figure out how to be able to be more creative while spending so much time at the Clinic ... short of taking my entire craftroom with me!!
I stamped off several images to "color" but you can only do that for so long before you get tired of it and need to move on to something else. If anyone has suggestions on how I can "kill some time" while waiting for DH to have treatment, I would love to hear from you!!!
If you're interested in an update, here ya go ...
After returning home (around 7 pm), Mark was extremely tired primarily from some of the other drugs they administered to help keep his nausea & fever in control. However, by around 8 p.m. he was fevered ... chilled & nauseated. All to be expected but still not easy to deal with. During the night he must have slept in such a manner that the catheter lines were pulling because he had bleeding through the bandage over the exit site as well as through his tee shirt and on the bed sheets. Since we were trained yesterday on how to rebandage the exit site ... and flush the 3 catheter lines ... we did what we were taught and got it all taken care of without a problem. He is still very tired today and has spent most of the day in bed but being the good employee he is ... he set up his laptop and took care of emails before going back to rest.
Our next trip to the Clinic will be on Saturday then we'll begin going everyday starting Monday for the next 2 weeks prior to his admission on April 7th. Thanks to you all for your support and prayers ... please keep them going ... we've not got to the end of this journey yet!!

  4. Oh, poor Mark. It just breaks my heart to hear what he has to go through. I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. Love your cards. I'm happy your able to something during all that time.

  5. Darlene, I'm praying for both of you. What you are dealing with takes so much energy and strength for both of you. Do you knit or crochet? Pat Catan's and Michaels has programs where you make squares and they are sewn together to make blankets they give to those in need. Do you have notes to write or cards you can write out ahead of needing like birthdays, anniversaries?
My sister does that, addresses and adds a stamp and sticky note to tell her the date she needs to mail it.
Read a good book or magazine, draw some card sketches, write a letter to someone you've wanted to get in touch with, (grade some of my papers from work! Just took about an hour to do that and record all of them! LOL)
Do they have a computer you can use while there? Some hospitals have a site you can post updates to for family and friends.
Walk the halls for exercise and to relieve the tension of sitting so long.
Go to the chapel if they have one. It's nice to sit in a quiet place to pray and think.
How about organizing those pictures you have stashed somewhere in the house. Maybe write on the backs of them or just go through them to see what you really want to keep.
My sister and I laughed when I told her I was going to do that over summer vacation; get rid of 50 pictures of her first born. I'd still have 50 left! LOL
Is there someone in the hospital you could read to?
    make your shopping lists
think of time consuming things you do that you could do at the hospital so when you're home you can use that time to do what you need to do, like being with Mark or doing something for yourself.
Research something you've always wanted to know in non-fiction books
Find new quick-easy recipes to make when you can.
start working on Christmas cards and do them in steps so you only have to bring a couple of things each day to make 10-15 of the same cards.
Make some cards for people or kids right there in the hospital and leave them at the nurses station.
Well my friend, sleep well tonight and I'll check in with you again soon.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  7. You and DH are in my T&P...

I know when I was with my mother at the hospital I prepared kits to take... I know with my head spinning with all that was going on with Mom and me wanting to create that this was the best... I would make sets 5 to 10 depending on what it could be used for, then put them together at the hospital.

    don't know if this helps
