The technique is called Pyramage ... and although I've seen it around, I've never taken the time to check it out or give it a try until today. I will certainly be doing more ... it's easy and so much fun.
Here are the basic steps and items I used for my card ...
1. I used Spellbinder Classic Ovals to cut out Three ovals ... stepping down in size.
2. On the two larger ovals, I've stamped portions of my focus image around the edge in various coordinating colors ... I have used SU Bermuda Bay (large panel), Rich Razzleberry (middle panel) & Melon Mambo (smaller panel) inks. On the smallest panel, you stamp your image.
3. On a scrap piece of white cardstock, I have used my coordinating markers to create a 'background' then stamped my butterfly image over top using Versafine Black ink. With a craft knife (or scissors) cut out the color-coordinated butterfly.
4. I have used dimensionals (pop dots) between each layer and Art Glitter clear drying glue down the center of the cut out butterfly to allow movement in the wings.
With that part completed, now I needed to decide on my background paper. I chose this pretty pink from the Colorbok 'sorbet' 8x8 pack and put my card together. The rubber stamps I have used are: Butterfly - Rubber Stampede A2482D and Butterfly Kisses Sentiment - Serendipity Stamps 436D.
For More on Pyramage, here's another tutorial that is more complicated: http://www.papercraftjunkies.com/content/2009/02/pyramage-tutorial/
This is the card I ended up making using the piece I made to share the technique with you all. When I made my 1st card using this technique, I didn't think about taking photos to show you how it was done. But here if the final result using the step-by-step I shared with you above.
