A Twofer with Trees . . .

Hello Friends and Happy Sunday!

I had a quiet Saturday so took the opportunity to join in the fun challenge over on Darnell's TWOFER CARD CHALLENGE blog.  The challenge this time is TREES.  Let me show you what I've created then I'll explain how I used the same die to create my two different cards.

Here's what the TWOFER challenge is all about . . .

Today I used the same Memory Box die (which I just happened to have won in their August challenge ... yippee!).  This die showed up in the mailbox today so of course I just HAD to get right on creating with it!  Not that I don't have MANY more tree dies & stamps in my stash!  LOL

Card #1 is for Fall and I began by creating a Fall colored background using various TH distress oxide inks and watercolor paper. Next I embossed the entire panel using an NBUS Nellie's Choice A4 leaves embossing folder.

I die cut the MB tree die twice from the lighter green card stock and sponged a darker green over the tree on one of those panels.   I then die cut the tree from the middle of the fall colored watercolor panel ... placing & adhering the die cut pieces back into this fall background panel.  I then proceeded in 'bleaching' a few of the embossed leaves using household bleach and a small artist brush.

Next I glued the two green pine tree die cuts together and adhered them on top of the center panel on my card front.  This added extra dimension and depth.

A maple leaf from the Karen Burniston - Autumn Elements die set and my Lawn Fawn  - Happy Fall Line Border were the finishing touches.

Mod Squad Challenge - Autumn Foliage

Card #2, using this same Memory Box Single Pine Tree Frame die, is for this upcoming holiday season.  This time around, I've die cut THREE times from white card stock then proceeded in cutting the sides & top of the frame from each of those three panels to create a row of pines across the bottom of my slimline styled card.

I've used another NBUS item for the background cut on this slimline card.  That is the Stitched Scalloped Nesting Slimline die set from Kat Scrappiness.  I've die cut the background panel from a 12x12 sheet of snow designer paper and matted it onto a medium blue panel of card stock that is 1/4" smaller than my white card base.

Next I needed a snow covered ground panel to anchor my winter scene so I took the same scalloped die and die cut a scrap of white card stock and tore the top edge to create that snowy ground panel.

Now it was time to add my TREES.  First I sponged each tree using OLD SU Garden Green ink and a sponge dauber.  To be sure not to get ink along the bottom white frame section, I used purple tape and taped each one down to a scrap of typing paper before doing my green sponging.  Next it was time to glue them onto my card ... for this I used the stitched edge as my guide.  Placing the two outside trees down first then the darkest one in the middle.

You can't have a winter forest without deer so I have used Dee's Distinctively - Deer 2 and my two little fawns are by Poppystamps ... Cute Fawn and Curious Fawn.  My card is finished out with a sentiment die by Sue Wilson.

  2. Wow. So glad you explained the bleaching because I was wondering... I have GOT to try this with one of my embossing folders! Beautiful background for your tree die. Congrats on your win! Perfect scene for your slimline card, too. So cute! I have that Dee's deer and have loved it well. Now I'm thinking I need to put it on a card again this year.

  10. I enjoyed reading all the thoughtful details that went into creating your two beautiful designs, Darlene! Great job putting your new tree die prize to work right away and very cleverly, too! I love the way you used it on both a fall card and a Christmas card. The colors of your fall card are perfect and I love the added interest you achieved by bleaching some of the leaves and adding the maple leaf! I also love the scalloped edge in part sky and part snow on your Christmas card and, I agree, you HAD to add the sweet winter deer! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #31! (You could share at NBUS, too.) Keep well! Hugs, Darnell

  12. I love how you set the focal point on your fall-card. The tree pops because of the white leaves. Wonderful. Thank you for joining us at Challenge up your life. Greetings, Anja.
