Hello Friends!
It's been awhile since I've just taken the time to PLAY around in my crafting cave and BFF Diane (Nellie's Nest) just told me about this new technique she's been seeing around blogland and thought I'd give it a try. It's called the Blackout Embossing Technique ... I have linked it to a video on YouTube but there are more out there so pick one you like.
Keeping in mind using a juicy, thick pad ink pad for the background works best (as you will see in the video) but I just used what I had on hand. Not perfect but I think they still made pretty cards. Here's what I came up with using Altenew & Lisa Horton 3D embossing folders. You MUST use the 3D folders to get the proper effect!!
Here are my first two attempts ... I've used TH distress oxide inks for the coloring and a Verafine Onyx ink pad for the black background.
The addition of a sentiment and a few Nuvo drops and my cards are ready for the sale box.
I then wanted to try using some different inks & colors for the background.
Here I've strictly used TH Distress Oxide pads for color & background.
Once again, they are not perfect (need the proper thick pad ink pad for the background) but I still think for the 'uncrafty' person, they will think they are unique and beautiful.
I was in need of sympathy cards so as you can see, I've used sympathy sentiments on all these cards.
I hope you'll give this technique a try ... it's always fun to try something new!

As always . . .
Wow, these are marvellous!!! I made a similar card with an Altenew image (thank you!!), but did no embossing. Flowers on a black background look great and so effective.
