Good Surprises!

Happy 4th of July to all my USA friends/family!!

Before all the festivities begin, I wanted to create a card to share
using one of the new Lavinia stamps I received recently.

I created the background using Tim Holtz distress oxide inks on watercolor paper.  Then, positioning my stamp so it would appear to be coming from under the frame I stamped it using Versafine onyx ink and my TH stamp positioner.  This Lavinia stamp is called 'Rue'.

I used the Memory Box 'Wrapped Stitched Frames' to create my frame.  I've die cut the largest one twice and glued them together.

The background butterfly and 'fireworks' came from an older Inkadinkado set.
I was just going to leave it CAS with Rue hanging down from the framework but of course I couldn't leave well enough alone and added the 'fireworks' (it is July 4th afterall lol).  But I wish I hadn't stamped the one over the upper portion of the vine ... I think it really takes away from the focus stamp ... oh well ... live & learn.  Sometimes less is more!!

I finished the inside of my card and by using this older Impression Obsession sentiment, my card could be used for a Birthday or even Just Because.  How nice would it be to receive a surprise in the mail just wishing us a day of Good Surprises!

After stamping, I die cut the panel using one of the dies in the Tutti Designs 'Scalloped Stitched Nesting Squares'
then added an ivy vine to tie it in with the front decor using the Frantic Stamper 'Spring Ivy' die.

Here's one more look at my card from a different angle ... sure hope you like it!

  1. Wow! What a way of incorporating a celebration with that delightful fairy! I'm sure she is the one setting off the fireworks, Darlene. It's an amazing creation! Such a pleasure to see your pretty card at Lavinia World Challenges. Hope to see more of your creations in the future.

  3. Happy 4th to you, Darlene! What a great card to share today. Those fireworks go absolutely perfectly with Rue! It took me a minute to realize they were fireworks rather than fairy dust sprinkles. A fabulous card!

  12. Hehehe, Darlene, I know all about not leaving things well enough alone! That is why CAS cards are the hardest for me to make :-) Your card, however, is gorgeous just the way it is. The background is soft and beautifully made to showcase Rue. The fireworks are beautiful and I know what you mean about that one fireworks stamp behind Rue, but if you look at it, it would have been missing something in that space, so I think it looks beautiful. The pop of colour in the form of the butterfly is just the perfect finishing touch. Love your card, my friend, and may have to case it sooner rather than later :-)
And with my other hat, I would also like to thank you for playing along with us at Lavinia World Challenges. We hope to see you again next time. Have a wonderful day.
