Birthday Blessings ...

Hello Dear Friends!

Today is a special day for my sweet daughter, Carolyn!

It's her birthday and words can not express what this lovely lady means to me!!

The card I have prepared to share with you today is to satisfy the challenge over on the Mod Squad Challenge Blog.  The theme is to use the 'white wash' technique and thankfully, they offer a video by Melanie Muenchinger of GinaK Designs.  Check it out!

 

This was a fun and easy technique and I really like the soft looking outcome.

I will be using this technique on a few more cards since I have a lot to get done for upcoming Fall craft shows and this is something a little 'different'!

 

 

I chose an OLD SU stamp for my focus image from the 'Morning Soft' set.  And, my sentiments are from the 'Birthday Blessings' set I won recently over on the Stamping Simply with Sharon Johnson blog (thanks Sharon!).

 

Don't ask me why ... but I truly struggle using 'kraft' paper.  I'm just not in love with it  ...  but since that's what Melanie used in her video I thought I'd give it a whirl.  HOWEVER ... I'm going to use white card stock next time and see if I like the outcome as much (color wise).

Good Afternoon All!  What a beautiful sun shiny day it is in NE Ohio and a beautiful weekend too!  WOW, I sure needed that!!!  

I wanted to share with you today a card I made for the "border punches challenge" over on Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply blog. My friend Anita gave me this new SU border punch last week and just could not wait to use it!!!  (thanks girlfriend!!) I've also used the "Rainy Day" Wink Wink Ink digi image which happens to be a FREEBIE at the present time ... be sure to jump over and grab yours!!!

I have actually used this border punch on all four panels of this creation ... including the base card itself.  My WWI image is PRECOLORED so this was a really quick card to go together!!  My sentiment is by Magenta and I have used Detail Clear embossing powder to emboss it.  The dragon fly is from a McGill punch given to me by my friend Linda Davis and I've added a little "mermaid" Stickles to it for the iridescent sparkle dragon flies have a tendency to have!  I have also used Crystal Effects on the water puddle (please see inset for a closer look).  This card is certainly a Stamp Simply creation in my book!!!  Hope you like it!!

I would also like to share with you a boxed set of notecards I quickly put together yesterday morning before leaving for Pittsburgh, PA to spend the day with my MIL.  My dear, sweet MIL has Alzheimer's and is in a home in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.  Mark's brother Drew lives in the area along with his wife, Ginny and they go over to the home EVERYDAY to give Mother that extra special attention she so deserves.  We are a two hour drive away so can not give the care we wished we could.  But when we do make a trip "back home", like we did yesterday, I like to take a little something special along to give Ginny for all her loving care towards our MIL.

 

I quickly made this 6 notecard set with matching box using the new DCWV Mariposa designer paper.  The base cards are of Very Vanilla.  I have border punched each card front bottom ... added a gold line using a gold Pilot marker then the designer paper!  A very quick yet beautiful gift idea.  The box was made using a piece of Kraft cardstock (box details came from GinaK StampTV) and matching Mariposa designer paper.  The closure was made with Nestabilities scallop circles on gold metallic & mellow moss papers.  The sentiment is a portion of a "Just For You" Hero Arts set and I cut the butterfly from a piece of the scrap using a Fiskars swivel craft knife and popped it up on pop dots.

Ginny is a lady who still enjoys writing a note to a friend the "old fashioned way" ... handwritten and snail mailed!!  She was very happy with this little surprise and I was happy to make them for her!!!

Midnight Madness & Stamp Simply

Hello again ... my second posting this morning is for the MIDNIGHT MADNESS SKETCH Challenge #41 and Sharon Johnson's STAMP SIMPLY Purple & Green challenge.

I chose another Art Creations Friday image to use as my focus and DCWV designer papers.  I have stamped a scroll image using Versamark over the Old Olive base card before adding the purple designer paper panels.  Prima flowers, Kaiser half pearls and Martha Stewart branches embellish this creation as well as white Signo dots around the edges.  I needed a birthday card so I decided to add this color coordinated sentiment panel which was also embellished with a Michael's gem and Martha Stewart branches.

Too COLD to play in the cave ...

Happy Saturday Afternoon All!!!

After spending 3 hours this morning clearing my driveway of the 14" of snow & helping neighbors with theirs, I decided it was time to play.  So, I went down into the Crafting Cave to "play" and BRRRRR , it's toooooo cooooold !  So, until it warms up (heater is on now), I thought I'd share a couple creations with you that I worked on last evening! 
First off are the cards I made for the STAMP SIMPLY Challenge over on Sharon Johnson's blog - "OH BABY".  Yep, we are to make BABY creations and since I recently purchased these adorable BUTTON BEAR digis from WinkWinkInk, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.


Isn't this a sweet image!!!  I've had this babyfood designer paper for so long I couldn't even find a name on it ... sorry!!  I've used a Nestabilities Labels4 and added hearts/sentiment from a Fiskars stamp set.  Add a little touch of ribbon and it's ready to go!!   My second baby creation is another WinkWinkInk digi, the girl version of Button Bears.  Another cutie!!  My background paper on this card is from Pixie Press. I've done some paper piercing around the outer edge and added pretty little pink ribbons & pearls for that "feminine" touch.  What do you think??  Oh and before I forget, I took the idea from my friend Vicki Parsons (Stamped Smiles) and used REAL tiny buttons on the button joints of the bears.  She's so clever!!!  (Hey Vicki!)  You just have to check out the awesome creation she made with this digi,  you can see it HERE.

Remember THIS creation I made for the challenge over on Paper Maniac???   Well, how THRILLED was I to receive an email that my card had won for their texture challenge.  WHOO HOO!  What's really cool is that I won my choice of Cuttlebug EF & Spellbinder Impressability ... here's what I picked!  Thanks Paper Maniac!!!   Mind you, I don't play the challenge with the hopes of winning something free ... I just truly enjoy the CHALLENGE! But it sure is fun when you are lucky enough to win something along the way!  Just had to share!!

Stamp Simply #124 , New Digi Artist & Practical Scrappers

Yesterday I spent the day with my friend Terri Snode (Terri's Cards N' More) just having fun "playing" with paper! Terri''s daughter Tanya is a NEW digi artist and has her own blog store called STAWNIES - Stamps by Tanya . She sent along one of her new Valentine images called "My Fruity Valentine" and asked us to see what we could create with it. So, here is my creation:
How thrilled was I to see that Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply Challenge this week was "Bleeding Hearts" ... to use the color RED and HEARTS! This card using Tanya's image will work perfectly!!! I just LOVE Sharon's challenge and all her lovely DT ladies and try to play every week. MORE FUN ... Remember a few days ago when I showed you the Memory Keeper Card Box & Cards I made (found on StampTV) ... well, I showed them to Terri and after completing our DT creations, she & I made a few more sets. I'm sure she will be sharing her's on her blog ... and here are mine.


We both recently purchased the DCWV 12x12 pack called "the Mariposa stack" and it is just filled with beautiful butterfly & sparkle papers, so that is what we used for our card sets today!

I also decided to modify the set just a bit and the way I made them ... you only use ONE-12x12 and THREE-8-1/2x 11 pieces of paper total!! On this set I used the entire piece of 12x12 ... even the little scrap that a placed on the "inside" of the card. Looks great! If you would like the measurements ... please just let me know!

These are so much prettier IRL (click on image for larger view) ... I just can't seem to capture the beauty of my work in my photos!! I'm sure it's NOT the camera because I have a very GOOD camera ... it's probably the fact that I need to take the time and learn how to use it to the best of it's ability!!

Stamp Simply, The Play Date Cafe & SNOW

Happy Friday Everyone! Those of you dealing with the snow & cold ... I hope you are able to stay in, be creative & drink hot chocolate! That's MY PLAN!!!

Today's Stamp Simply challenge over on Sharon Johnson's blog is to use "hearts"! I could provide SEVERAL creations samples for this challenge. I've been asked to create 60 Bridal Shower Invitations using Valentine's Day as the theme ... you know, red-white-pink-hearts, etc.! But of course, I created a seperate, special card for Sharon's challenge.
I was playing around with ideas for the invitations and had these two hearts laying on my work table that I made using different sized Nestabilities Heart dies. The designer paper is Foof-a-la and I have used the little hearts that are left over when you use the new Martha Stewart heart border punch & a white satin bow as my embellishments. This is about as CLEAN & SIMPLE as I get!!

What a fun color challenge is up this week over on The Play Date Cafe blog! This week we are to use BLACK, WHITE, GOLD & SILVER. Since I had this Foof-a-la designer paper still sitting on my table from Sharon's creation, I decided to use it again for this card. My image is from a CD of vintage images I purchased on Ebay a long time back and can't remember the name ... sorry!

I'm sure you all know how difficult it is to photograph anything using metallic paper but I did the best I could. I've used gold metallic to back my image ... using a Nestabilities scallop rectangle die as well as the smallest heart (Nesties classic hearts die). For my use of SILVER, I chose to use silver metallic ribbon over the designer paper strip panel as well as a heart punched out with the new Martha Stewart heart punch and then overlayed a silver heart cut with a Nesties classic heart die. Both the main card & the accent strip of designer paper have been edged using a Gold Pilot marker. Hope you like it!!!

Now I would like to share with you a "glimpse" outside my sliding glass door ... looking across the back yard. I know we don't have nearly as much snow as some other parts of Ohio & the midwest ... but it's enough for me!!

Believe it or not ... I DID fill all of my birdfeeders yesterday before the NEXT big storm predicted started to come through and it was covered faster than the little birds could find the seed. The poor little things will have to really WORK hard for their lunch today!!


As I type this, the snow has stopped ... but they are saying we are expecting another 5-6" in our area throughout the remainder of the day. We'll see ... the sky is starting to look a lot clearer and I'm thinking it has gone around us. Again ... that's okay with me!!!

Dream ...

Happy New Year's Day!!

It's a pretty quiet day around here, hubby's watching football so I thought I'd take the opportunity to participate in a few challenges. Actually, I think this is the first time I have created a card that fits 4 different challenges (that I know of ).

My something NEW is this SWEET image from the UK. Isn't she precious!! (click images for a larger view) It's from a company called Charmed Delectables. And, the "dream" sentiment is from another new set ... Inkadinkado (round frames). Of course the layout is from this week's Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge and color scheme from Play Date Cafe color Challenge.

My card is A-6 in size and Whisper White in color. The background panel is Basic Grey Marrakech designer paper as is the paper used for the main image matting. After stamping my image with Versafine Black I have used Prismacolor Markers, Prisma Pencils and EK Success Chalk for my coloring. I've also used Spica pens and American Crafts glitter pens. For the sparkle on the wings, I have used Crystal Effects covered with DecoArt Glamour Dust. Diamond Stickles was used for the flower centers and Mermaid Glitz Stickles was used on the turquoise flowers and center squiggles between background panels. The flower centers are Stampendous Tuquoise Diamond Dots. The paper flowers were created using the Spellbinder's Shapeabilities Flower die.

As I type this post, the snow has begun to fall outside again and it's coming down pretty fast & heavy. They are only calling for 1-3 inches but it's going to be VERY cold ... high tomorrow only 16 degrees ... Brrr!

Stamp Simply #111 & Crafty Secrets WINDOW Challenge

Good Tuesday Afternoon everyone!! I just wanted to share a couple creations with you! First is the Accordian Fold Card I created for Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply challenge last week.
After looking through Sharon's instructions and the awesome creations by her DT ... I realized what I did WRONG!!! Oh well ... it's for my friend in Toledo who has a birthday coming up and I'm sure she won't know my FOUR panel accordian should have been THREE ... LOL!! I realized too late that I needed to "flip it over" before punching the top border and decorating! DUH!!!
My paper size is 6 x 10 1/2 and it is scored at 3 1/2 & 7 inches. Each panel was created using up scraps of Cosmo Cricket from a project I did while visiting Joan Fricker (Joan's Gardens) a few weeks ago. LOVE USING THOSE SCRAPS!!! This paper was so pretty, all I needed to do was add an Inkadinkado flourish to each panel and various verses that were fitting for my friend. The only "embellishment" is the LOOP top which was created from the new Martha Stewart Loop border punch which I purchased from Joan while at her Get Together. I guess I'll have to give this Accordian Fold Card another try ... and hopefully "get it right this time!"

My second sharing is a card I made for today's Crafty Secrets Forum Challenge over on Splitcoast Stampers ... hosted by Lori Lynn Washburn. Lori had a GREAT challenge idea today ... " A Peek Inside" ... where we are to use WINDOWS on our creations along with our Crafty Secrets products. What fun ... and the girls are coming up with some AWESOME ideas. They are still filtering in ... but you can check them out HERE.


I chose this beautiful image from the Crafty Secrets Christmas Images & Journal Notes booklet as my focus panel. After cutting my "window" frame using 2 sizes of Nestabilities scallop rectangles, I also used the largest of those two sizes and cut out a panel of clear acetate and a light gray panel. I then "sandwiched" my image in between the acetate (which I drew panes on using a black Sharpie pen) and the gray panel ... then adhered my black panel on top. My designer paper (to mimic wallpaper) is by Rusty Pickle ... the "window seal" is brown cs which I've used a MS border punch on and outlined with a gold Pilot marker. The sentiment comes from the SU "Frosty" set from a few years back.


Well that's it for today ... I'm still working on additional products for this weekend's local craftshow! Guess I'd better get busy before it's time for DH to return home and ready to eat!!! Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!! Happy Stamping everyone!!!

Since I had friends coming to "PLAY" today ... I made this card VERY quickly. So, it's a true STAMP SIMPLY creation. My main image is from the Crafty Secrets Halloween Cotton Scraps and the background paper is Debbie Mumm Harvest & Holiday designer paper. The orange satin ribbon is from Offray.

My friend Terri Snode was on vacation this week so we decided to "get together and play" ... so I put the word out to a few others and my daughter even took her "day off" and drove the hour to come play. We shared snacks, chocolate, techniques, stamped images and a lot of laughs! Terri got several cards created, while my daughter Carolyn learned a few coloring tips from Lana Edward. Friend Carol Smuts joined in on the fun today and shared several vintage images among other things. This time we decided to each bring "grab bag" gifts, drew names for the drawings ... another fun way to share!! In the grab-bag there were some really cool items ... stamp sets, stickers, ribbon, rubber wheels, holiday envelopes ... WOW!

I Got Stamped in Shipshewana ...

Hello Everyone!! Did you miss me???? These ladies are the reason for my absence this weekend. I was fortunate enough to be invited along with the Stamp Simply gals for a weekend get together in Shipshewana, Indiana. Just in case you don't recognize these AWESOME ladies, please let me introduce you!

(They have been so supportive of me throughout Mark's illness ... I dearly love each & every one of them!) We laughed, played stamping games, dined, shopped, played more stamping games, ate more and did I mention we LAUGHTED??? What a fun group!!! We are already looking forward to doing something again next year ... doesn't that sound awesome???

Stamp Simply #92 - Summer Recipes

Time for another one of Sharon Johnson's fun filled Stamp Simply challenges. Today's challenge is all about "Summer Recipes". We are to make our card/project with that topic in mind. Well ... here it is in Sharon's own words:


SUMMER RECIPES – We all love getting new recipes to try out. Today our challenge is to make a card, or recipe card, or anything at all that will either hold a recipe or that we can write a recipe on AND there’s one more part that’s optional, but would be fun. SHARE your favorite summer recipe with us in your post — I think we’d ALL love to get some new recipes. And it’s summer — the recipes don’t need to be hard — they can be as simple as what you throw into your favorite tossed salad, or a picnic dish, or whatever. I’d love to get some new ideas — have fun with it!!!




Well, my family is quite large and every year we all get together for a "weekend" reunion and believe me ... there are SO many recipes flying around!! In fact 5 years go one of my cousins, myself and my daughter gather up all those favorite recipes, photos & stories and put them together in a 3-ring binder (396 page) Morgan Family Cookbook. (see image insert)

I would like to share one of those recipes with you today but first I will share with you the recipe for this card creation! My base card is Whisper White and the designer papers are from DCWV Garden Party and Graphic 45. I have used whisper white & the SU scallop border punch to create my scallop edge border and a round tip Creative Memories black marker for the accent dots. My recipe card was made from a piece of Whisper White cardstock that I have drawn lines on and the cute little image is from the Crafty Secrets Sweet Stuff and the "Seasoned with Love" images are from the Crafty Secrets Kitchen Classic set.


Now for the RECIPE: This is a DIP recipe that is SO EASY and is great with veggies, chips, baked potatoes and anything else you might want to put it on or use it with! It's comparable to Dill Dip but it has one ingredient that gives it a little different taste and extra special flavor. That ingredient is a spice (by Spice Island) called "Beau Monde" (see insert).


Here are the ingredients:

1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise (Miracle Whip can be used but makes it sweeter)
1 teaspoon of each of the following:

• Minced onion
• Dill Weed
• Parsley Flakes
• Beau Monde

Mix together and enjoy! Holds up in the fridge for several days and is best if made a couple of hours before you want to use it ... to give the spices time to infuse.


I hope you try this recipe. Once you do, it will become a family favorite! I know my family ALL make it instead of buying store bought dip for anytime they are serving a veggie tray or even just chips & dip! Thanks for stopping by my blog today ... hope to see you again real soon!!

EDIT: For those of you who can't find the Spice Island spices in your area, HERE is a link to purchase the beau monde used in this recipe. I got to this site right from the Spice Island website ( www.spiceislands.com). The ingredients in this spice are: Salt, Dextrose, Onion, Celery Seed and Silicon Dioxide. (You could probably use Celery Salt but NOT as much.)

Stamp Simply #86 - "Just A Little Thing"

Well, here it is Friday again and time for another fun challenge offered by Sharon Johnson over on her No Time To Stamp? blog. Today it's all about creating "something small". Here it is in Sharon's words:

JUST A LITTLE THING- Mothers’ Day is just around the corner so let’s make “Just a Little Thing” for Mom - or for whomever you please. Today we are making small creations — and the choice is yours! I LOVE working on a tiny canvas and when I do, I just see *vintage* in my mind’s eye (though you need not do vintage if it’s not your thing)! You could make an ATC, a bookmark, a small project with an Inchie, a tiny card (3 x 3 or smaller), a gift tag — whatever you can dream up — but make JUST A LITTLE THING today. Can’t wait to see what you all come up with!!!! Have fun!!!

I chose to make a 3x3 which I then placed on a card front. The birthday greeting has been placed on the inside of the A-2 card leaving the inside of the 3x3 blank for you to enter your own personal little greeting. The main image on my 3x3 is by Inkadinkado which was stamped onto Whisper White cardstock using Versafine Black and embossed using Detail Clear Embossing Powder. It was then cut closely, mounted onto Real Red cardstock ... added the Hobby Lobby organza ribbon and mounted onto the Whisper White 3x3 cardbase.

My A-2 cardbase is of Whisper White with a panel of Basic Black over top. Before adhereing around the outer edges, I've used my SU word window punch to make the opening for my 3x3 to slide into. The sentiment panel is another strip of Whisper White with the Crafty Secrets (Bird Lovers) sentiment stamped with Versafine Black and clear embossed. I've added red Prima flowers with Hero Arts gem centers for embellishment.

For those of you wondering how my DH is recouperating, here is a quick update. He's been home for one week and it has been a bit of a difficult one. His blood numbers are increasing nicely and for that we are thremendously thankful but the recoup from this whole ordeal and the huge amount of chemo he endured is going to take several months. He is still very exhausted, weak and has that TERRIBLE taste in his mouth. This of course makes it difficult for him to eat & drink but he's trying to be sure he takes in at least enough to keep him safe from dehydration. As we have in the past, we will just take it one day at a time and hope each day becomes better than the last. Please continue to pray that his immune system rebuilds rapidly ... the poor guy can't even enjoy Mother Nature at this point in time due to the risk of fungal, bacterial infection.
